The first ThreatsDay Bulletin of 2026 lands on a day that already feels symbolic — new year, new breaches, new tricks. If the past twelve months taught defenders anything, it’s that threat actors don’t pause for holidays or resolutions. They just evolve faster. This week’s round-up shows how subtle shifts in behavior, from code tweaks to job scams, are rewriting what “cybercrime” looks like in
Cyber threats last week showed how attackers no longer need big hacks to cause big damage. They’re going after the everyday tools we trust most — firewalls, browser add-ons, and even smart TVs — turning small cracks into serious breaches. The real danger now isn’t just one major attack, but hundreds of quiet ones using the software and devices already inside our networks. Each trusted system can
Google’s December update fixes two Android bugs that criminals are actively exploiting. Update as soon as you can.
Cisco Talos has confirmed that ransomware operators are leveraging Velociraptor, an open-source digital forensics and incident response (DFIR) tool that had not previously been definitively tied to ransomware incidents. We assess with moderate confidence that this activity can be attributed to threat actor Storm-2603, based on overlapping tools
### Summary While rebuilding [PMD Designer](https://github.com/pmd/pmd-designer) for Reproducible Builds and digging into issues, I found out that passphrase for `gpg.keyname=0xD0BF1D737C9A1C22` is included in jar published to Maven Central. ### Details See https://github.com/jvm-repo-rebuild/reproducible-central/blob/master/content/net/sourceforge/pmd/pmd-designer/README.md I removed 2 lines from https://github.com/jvm-repo-rebuild/reproducible-central/blob/master/content/net/sourceforge/pmd/pmd-designer/pmd-designer-7.0.0.diffoscope but real content is: ``` ├── net/sourceforge/pmd/util/fxdesigner/designer.properties │ @@ -1,14 +1,12 @@ │ #Properties │ checkstyle.plugin.version=3.3.1 │ checkstyle.version=10.14.0 │ -gpg.keyname=0xD0BF1D737C9A1C22 │ -gpg.passphrase=evicx0nuPfvSVhVyeXpw │ jar.plugin.version=3.3.0 │ -java.version=11.0.22 │ +java.version=11.0.25 │ javadoc.plugin.version=3.6.3 │ jflex-output=/home/runner/work/pmd-designer/pmd-designer/target/generated-sources/jflex...
### Impact summary In some circumstances, debug artifacts uploaded by the CodeQL Action after a failed code scanning workflow run may contain the environment variables from the workflow run, including any secrets that were exposed as environment variables to the workflow. Users with read access to the repository would be able to access this artifact, containing any secrets from the environment. For some affected workflow runs, the exposed environment variables in the debug artifacts included a valid `GITHUB_TOKEN` for the workflow run, which has access to the repository in which the workflow ran, and all the permissions specified in the workflow or job. The `GITHUB_TOKEN` is valid until the job completes or 24 hours has elapsed, whichever comes first. Environment variables are exposed only from workflow runs that satisfy all of the following conditions: - Code scanning workflow configured to scan the Java/Kotlin languages. - Running in a repository containing Kotlin source code. - R...

### Summary _Short summary of the problem. Make the impact and severity as clear as possible. For example: An unsafe deserialization vulnerability allows any unauthenticated user to execute arbitrary code on the server._ There is a potential XXE(XML External Entity Injection) vulnerability when http4k handling malicious XML contents within requests, which might allow attackers to read local sensitive information on server, trigger Server-side Request Forgery and even execute code under some circumstances. ### Details _Give all details on the vulnerability. Pointing to the incriminated source code is very helpful for the maintainer._ https://github.com/http4k/http4k/blob/25696dff2d90206cc1da42f42a1a8dbcdbcdf18c/core/format/xml/src/main/kotlin/org/http4k/format/Xml.kt#L42-L46 XML contents is parsed with DocumentBuilder without security settings on or external entity enabled ### PoC _Complete instructions, including specific configuration details, to reproduce the vulnerability._ #### ...
