Urgent: Microsoft Issues Patches for 97 Flaws, Including Active Ransomware Exploit

It's the second Tuesday of the month, and Microsoft has released another set of security updates to fix a total of 97 flaws impacting its software, one of which has been actively exploited in ransomware attacks in the wild. Seven of the 97 bugs are rated Critical and 90 are rated Important in severity. Interestingly, 45 of the shortcomings are remote code execution flaws, followed by 20

CVE-2022-27665: What's New in WS_FTP Server 2020.0.0 (8.7.0)

Reflected XSS (via AngularJS sandbox escape expressions) exists in Progress Ipswitch WS_FTP Server 8.6.0. This can lead to execution of malicious code and commands on the client due to improper handling of user-provided input. By inputting malicious payloads in the subdirectory searchbar or Add folder filename boxes, it is possible to execute client-side commands. For example, there is Client-Side Template Injection via subFolderPath to the ThinClient/WtmApiService.asmx/GetFileSubTree URI.

CVE-2023-28625: Release release 2.4.13.2 · OpenIDC/mod_auth_openidc

mod_auth_openidc is an authentication and authorization module for the Apache 2.x HTTP server that implements the OpenID Connect Relying Party functionality. In versions 2.0.0 through 2.4.13.1, when `OIDCStripCookies` is set and a crafted cookie supplied, a NULL pointer dereference would occur, resulting in a segmentation fault. This could be used in a Denial-of-Service attack and thus presents an availability risk. Version 2.4.13.2 contains a patch for this issue. As a workaround, avoid using `OIDCStripCookies`.

CVE-2022-47542: Redgate Software - Compliant Database DevOps Solutions and Tools For SQL Server, Oracle, & .NET

Red Gate SQL Monitor 11.0.14 through 12.1.46 has Incorrect Access Control, exploitable remotely for Escalation of Privileges.

Ubuntu Security Notice USN-5985-1

Ubuntu Security Notice 5985-1 - It was discovered that the System V IPC implementation in the Linux kernel did not properly handle large shared memory counts. A local attacker could use this to cause a denial of service. It was discovered that the KVM VMX implementation in the Linux kernel did not properly handle indirect branch prediction isolation between L1 and L2 VMs. An attacker in a guest VM could use this to expose sensitive information from the host OS or other guest VMs.

How to Build a Research Lab for Reverse Engineering — 4 Ways

Malware analysis is an essential part of security researcher's work. But working with malicious samples can be dangerous — it requires specialized tools to record their activity, and a secure environment to prevent unintended damage. However, manual lab setup and configuration can prove to be a laborious and time-consuming process. In this article, we'll look at 4 ways to create a reverse

Ubuntu Security Notice 5981-1 - It was discovered that the System V IPC implementation in the Linux kernel did not properly handle large shared memory counts. A local attacker could use this to cause a denial of service. It was discovered that a use-after-free vulnerability existed in the SGI GRU driver in the Linux kernel. A local attacker could possibly use this to cause a denial of service or possibly execute arbitrary code.
