Badminton Center Management System allows SQL Injection via parameter 'id' in /bcms/admin/court\_rentals/update\_status.php. Exploiting this issue could allow an attacker to compromise the application, access or modify data, or exploit latent vulnerabilities in the underlying database.

In Burpsuite intercept the request from the affected page with 'customer\_number' parameter and save it like poc.txt Then run SQLmap to extract the data from the database:

"Left unpatched, a hacker or a military unit can leverage such a vulnerability to neutralize communications in a specific location," Israeli cybersecurity company Check Point said in a report shared with The Hacker News. "The vulnerability is in the modem firmware, not in the Android OS itself."

UNISOC, a semiconductor company based in Shanghai, is the world's fourth-largest mobile processor manufacturer after Mediatek, Qualcomm, and Apple, accounting for 10% of all SoC shipments in Q3 2021, according to Counterpoint Research.

The now-patched issue has been assigned the identifier CVE-2022-20210 and is rated 9.4 out of 10 for severity on the CVSS vulnerability scoring system.

In a nutshell, the vulnerability — discovered following a reverse-engineering of UNISOC's LTE protocol stack implementation — relates to a case of buffer overflow vulnerability in the component that handles Non-Access Stratum (NAS) messages in the modem firmware, resulting in denial-of-service.

To mitigate the risk, it's recommended that users update their Android devices to the latest available software as and when it becomes available as part of Google's Android Security Bulletin for June 2022.

"An attacker could have used a radio station to send a malformed packet that would reset the modem, depriving the user of the possibility of communication," Check Point's Slava Makkaveev said.

German ISPs are considering the introduction of TrustPid, a new type of “supercookie” that comprises of a unique identifier which will be issued for each customer that will be able to track what that customer is doing online.

The providers are trying to sell this idea by telling the public that the identifier can never be tracked back to an individual and that something needs to be done to keep the internet free.

**The end of the tracking cookie**

Where does this attempt come from, you may ask. Advertisers are seeing the end of the tracking cookie on the horizon and it’s coming closer.

Google has announced that it will stop the use of third-party cookies in Chrome by the end of 2023, joining a growing list of browsers that are saying farewell to the tracking cookies. And Apple already blocks default tracking everywhere.

Social media and tech giants, including Google, are already looking at other business models to replace tracking cookies since they are the ones that benefited the most from targeted advertising, by providing the most useful information to the advertisers.

What makes supercookies different is that they are unique identifiers that are inserted into the HTTP header by a service provider. Unlike normal cookies they do not get stored in browsers or browser plug-ins.

**Free internet**

The idea of a free internet—as communicated by some of these companies—is not that they are signing you up as a customer free of charge. Wouldn’t that be nice? No, the idea is that websites that are providing content need to make a living. And the usual income for most of those sites comes from advertising. Why the ISP providers feel that it is part of their job description to enable targeted advertising escapes me. But undoubtedly the goal is to improve the bottom line.

Targeted advertising is more rewarding than regular advertising since it supposedly enormously enhances the effect of the advertisement. At least, that’s the idea that most advertisers live by, and sell to their customers. But here’s something to consider: According to research by Cloudflare, 20 percent of websites that serve ads receive visits almost exclusively by fraudulent click bots, and that bots comprise roughly 50 percent of all Internet traffic. Imagine how much money advertisers could save by effectively tackling ad fraud. Plus, that sounds a lot better than tagging another tracker on us.

**Hiding consent**

The worst bit of your ISP enabling the tracking is that every user has to sign some sort of agreement with them. In this agreement the ISP can hide the TrustPid consent in a long End-user License Agreement (EULA) that almost no-one ever reads and which can probably not be declined partially. It’s all or nothing if you want or need this provider. And if one provider successfully monetizes this idea, I’m afraid others will quickly follow suite.

Another advantage of an ISP is that they know if and when the IP of your home connection changes and for mobile devices they can even enumerate the users within a household by identifying the individual devices.

**History**

The idea of ISPs issuing supercookies is certainly not new. Verizon was the example that should have served as a history lesson here. In 2016, Verizon had to settle with the FCC over its use of a supercookie, which tracked the websites visited by phones on its network. They were fined because they forgot to inform the customers or give them an opt-out option. Verizon had to pay a fine of $1.35 million and was ordered to receive customer permission before sharing tracking data with other companies or even within its own organization.

**How it works**

The network provider will first combine your mobile number and IP address to generate a pseudonymous network identifier, after which using that identifier they will generate a pseudonymous unique token (TrustPid).

This TrustPid is used to create additional marketing tokens for the websites of advertisers and publishers you visit (website specific tokens). Advertisers and publishers aren’t (shouldn’t be) able to identify you as a person via the website specific tokens.

Where you have given consent, advertisers and publishers will use the website specific tokens to provide you with targeted online marketing, or conduct analytics. The advertisers and publishers that you’ve consented to could be drawn up in a list that will be in the hands of the ISP, but you can manage your consent for those parties at any time via the Privacy Portal.

I inserted the “shouldn’t be” since we are all too aware that many good intentions have unexpected consequences. Let’s suppose that you fill out your details on one of the websites that you decided to trust. Introduce one XSS vulnerability and all your personal details could be linked back to your TrustPid.

**Mitigation**

Because of the lack of technical details provided about TrustPid, we are not completely clear how a user can avoid being tracked. But I asked German privacy expert Andreas Dewes and he responded:

The US Department of Justice (DoJ) has said it won’t prosecute security researchers acting “in good faith”, as part of changes to the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act (CFAA). While the DoJ says this was always the case in practice, the changes provide more certainty for researchers, pen testers, and bug bounty hunters.

Meanwhile, the UK government remains half-hearted about bug bounty programs, with Dr Ian Levy, technical director of the UK’s National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), saying there are no plans for a broad rollout any time soon. Speaking at the CyberUK conference, he commented: “The reason for that is that we just don’t seem to need to – people are more than happy to come and tell government we’ve screwed up.”

LinkedIn, meanwhile, has launched a public bug bounty program with rewards of up to $18,000 that replaces its invite-only program. Hosted by HackerOne, LinkedIn invites hackers to probe its main web domain, LinkedIn.com, for security flaws, as well as the LinkedIn API and Android and iOS mobile apps.

Blockchain bridge Wormhole has handed over a record $10 million reward to a bug hunter with the online pseudonym ‘satya0x’. Had it been exploited successfully, the critical vulnerability that attracted the reward could have seen all the funds residing in in the Wormhole core bridge contract on Ethereum lost forever.

In other payout news, Youssef Sammouda netted $44,625 for discovering a series of bugs that could have allowed a malicious actor to take over Facebook accounts. They included a cross-site request forgery (CSRF) bug allowing an attacker to force a victim to log out from their Facebook account in their browser, and a flaw forcing a login to the attacker’s Facebook account inside the victim’s browser.

Pwn2Own Vancouver, the flagship hacking contest, took place last month, handing out more than $1 million for bugs in products from Microsoft, Mozilla, Apple, and others. Participants unearthed 27 qualifying vulnerabilities in total, with a team from Star Labs in Singapore being crowned this year’s Masters of Pwn.

And finally, Vidoc Security Lab has published a security advisory warning of more than 60 instances of a web security flaw in the Swagger-UI library, potentially leading to account takeover. Bug bounty programs operated by PayPal, Shopify, Atlassian, Microsoft, GitLab, and Yahoo were alerted, among others.

The malvertiser’s use of PowerShell could push it beyond its basic capabilities to spread ransomware, spyware or steal data from browser sessions, researchers warn.

ChromeLoader may seem on the surface like a run-of-the-mill browser hijacker that merely redirects victims to advertisement websites. However, its use of PowerShell could pose a greater risk by leading to further and advanced malicious activity, such as the propagation of ransomware or spyware or theft of browser-session data.

Researchers are warning of the potential for ChromeLoader—which has seen a resurgence in activity recently—to pose a more sophisticated threat than typical malvertisers do, according to two separate blog posts by Malwarebytes Labs and Red Canary.

ChromeLoader is a pervasive and persistent browser hijacker that eventually manifests as a browser extension, modifying victims’ Chrome settings and redirecting user traffic to advertisement websites. On Windows machines, victims become infected with the malware through ISO files that poses as a cracked video game or pirated films or TV programs, researchers said.

 However, ChromeLoader is platform agnostic, which means users of macOS also are at risk from infection, according to a blog post from Malwarebytes Lead Malware Intelligence Analyst Christopher Boyd. However, instead of lurking in ISO files, attackers use DMG (Apple Disk Image) files, a more common macOS format, to hide ChromeLoader, he said.

While its core functionality is fairly benign, ChromeLoader has a unique feature in that it uses PowerShell to inject itself into the browser and add a malicious extension to it—”a technique we don’t see very often (and one that often goes undetected by other security tools),” warned Aedan Russell from Red Canary’s Detection Engineering team in a blog post.

“If applied to a higher-impact threat—such as a credential harvester or spyware—this PowerShell behavior could help malware gain an initial foothold and go undetected before performing more overtly malicious activity, like exfiltrating data from a user’s browser sessions,” he wrote.

****The Infection Process****

ChromeLoader lurks in bogus files that are promoted on Twitter and through other services, or found on rogue and torrent sites offering pirated video games and other media for free download, researchers said.

“Some social media posts promote supposedly cracked Android games via QR codes which direct would-be gamers to rogue websites,” Boyd explained.

Double clicking the ISO file mounts it as a virtual CD-ROM, with the ISO’s executable claiming to be the content that the victim originally was looking for, he wrote.

“Within this ISO is an executable used to install ChromeLoader, along with what appears to be a .NET wrapper for the Windows Task Scheduler,” according to Red Canary’s Russell. “This is how ChromeLoader maintains its persistence on the victim’s machine later in the intrusion chain.”

Once installed, ChromeLoader uses a PowerShell command to load in a Chrome extension from a remote resource. PowerShell then removes the scheduled task so the victim has no idea that their browser has been compromised, Boyd said.

“At this point, search results cannot be trusted and bogus entries will be displayed to the user,” he wrote.

ChromeLoader uses the same bait—pirated videos or cracked games—to lure macOS users, but the infection process is a bit different, Russell explained. On macOS machines, ChromeLoader uses aDMG file that contains an installer script that can drop payloads for either Chrome or Safari instead of a portable executable file.

“When executed by the end user, the installer script then initiates cURL to retrieve a ZIP file containing the malicious browser extension and unzips it within the private/var/tmp directory, finally executing Chrome with command-line options to load the malicious extension,” he wrote.

****Mitigation and Detection****

Researchers offered mitigation advice as well as both user- and administrator-level ways to detect if a system has been infected with ChromeLoader.

One obvious tip is to avoid downloading pirated software or videos, which Boyd warned “is a very risky business,” not to mention illegal.

“If you’re downloading a torrent, you may well be rolling dice with regard to the digital health of your devices,” he wrote.

Users also can click on the “More” icon, then “More Tools -> Extensions” from the drop-down list in Chrome to see everything that’s installed, active or disabled, along with additional information about all extensions present. From there is anything looks dodgy, Google offers steps to reset browser settings or clean things up, he said.

Red Canary offered more advanced detection tactics based on ChromeLoader’s use of PowerShell to find out if a browser has been infected.

One is to search for PowerShell containing a shortened version of the encodedCommand flag in its command line, which can find the execution of encoded PowerShell commands. Another is to looks for instances of the Chrome browser executable spawning from PowerShell with a corresponding command line that includes appdata\\local as a parameter.

In macOS, security administrators can search forsh or bash scripts running in macOS environments with command lines associated with the macOS variant of ChromeLoader, as well as the execution of encoded sh, bash, or zsh commands on macOS endpoints to know if a browser has been infected.

With Apple due to announce iOS 16 at its Worldwide Developers Conference in June, the iPhone maker released probably its last major iOS 15-point update in May. It came with new features, but iOS and iPadOS 15.5 also fixed 34 security vulnerabilities, some of which are serious.

Security issues fixed in iOS 15.5 include flaws in the Kernel, as well as in the WebKit browser engine, according to Apple’s support page. Thankfully, none of the issued patches in iOS and iPad 15.5 are being used in attacks, according to the company, but that doesn’t mean they won’t be if you don’t update now.

Meanwhile, users of macOS, tvOS, and the Apple Watch should update their devices ASAP, as Apple also issued an emergency update to patch an issue it believes is already being used in attacks. On May 10, the firm issued security updates to fix 75 vulnerabilities, eight labeled as serious and three that were being exploited by attackers. The issues fixed in May’s Patch Tuesday were important, but there were soon problems for some Microsoft users, who reported authentication failures after installing the latest updates. It impacted people using the client and server Windows platforms and systems running all Windows versions, including Windows 11 and Windows Server 2022.

**A new malvertising campaign has emerged in which ChromeLoader malware is being used to hijack browsers and steal data.**

A sudden, unexpected spike in browser hijacking campaigns utilizing ChromeLoader malware has been detected lately, stated Aedan Russell from Red Canary. Russell noted that the attackers aim to hijack browsers through the “pervasive and persistent” ChromeLoader malware that can modify browser settings and redirect the victim to advertisement sites.

The malvertising campaign is financially motivated as the attackers are part of a wider network of marketing affiliates and redirect the user to advertising sites.

**What is ChromeLoader?**

For your information, ChromeLoader is a Chrome browser extension distributed as ISO files through pay-per-install websites and fraudulent social media posts usually offering QR codes, pirated movies, or cracked video games.

ChromeLoader changes web browser settings to display search results that lure users to download unwanted software, visit dating sites or adult games platforms, and participate in fake surveys. It stands apart among other browser hijackers for its incredible persistence, infection route, and volume involving abuse of PowerShell.

**Attack Scenario**

According to Red Canary’s blog post, the malware operators use a malicious ISO archive file to invade the system. This file is promoted as a cracked executable for commercial software or a video game so that the victims can download it from malicious sites or torrents. Malware operators also use Twitter posts to promote the malicious executable.

When the file is double-clicked by a user in Windows 10 or later systems, it is mounted as a virtual CD-ROM drive. Although it appears to be a keygen or game crack titled CS\_Installer.exe, the executable in this ISO file actually unleashes the malware.

ChromeLoader then executes/decodes a PowerShell command to fetch an archive from the remote resource and gets loaded on the system as a Chrome extension. Afterward, the PowerShell removes the scheduled task and infects Chrome with a discreetly injected extension to hijack and manipulate the browser results.

Red Canary researchers identified that ChromeLoader operators also target macOS systems to manipulate Safari web browser and Chrome. The infection chain is similar on macOS, but attackers use DMG (Apple Disk Image) file instead of ISO.

Furthermore, instead of the executable containing the installer, in macOS, an installer bash script is used to download and decompress the malware extension onto the private/var/tmp directory.
