CVE-2023-2804: heap-buffer-overflow at /libjpeg-turbo/jdmrgext.c:126 in h2v2_merged_upsample_internal() (SIGSEGV) · Issue #675 · libjpeg-turbo/libjpeg-turbo

A heap-based buffer overflow issue was discovered in libjpeg-turbo in h2v2_merged_upsample_internal() function of jdmrgext.c file. The vulnerability can only be exploited with 12-bit data precision for which the range of the sample data type exceeds the valid sample range, hence, an attacker could craft a 12-bit lossless JPEG image that contains out-of-range 12-bit samples. An application attempting to decompress such image using merged upsampling would lead to segmentation fault or buffer overflows, causing an application to crash.

Zyxel Issues Critical Security Patches for Firewall and VPN Products

Zyxel has released software updates to address two critical security flaws affecting select firewall and VPN products that could be abused by remote attackers to achieve code execution. Both the flaws – CVE-2023-33009 and CVE-2023-33010 – are buffer overflow vulnerabilities and are rated 9.8 out of 10 on the CVSS scoring system. A brief description of the two issues is below - CVE-2023-33009 -

Red Hat Security Advisory 2023-3269-01

CVE-2023-33010: Zyxel security advisory for multiple buffer overflow vulnerabilities of firewalls | Zyxel Networks

A buffer overflow vulnerability in the ID processing function in Zyxel ATP series firmware versions 4.32 through 5.36 Patch 1, USG FLEX series firmware versions 4.50 through 5.36 Patch 1, USG FLEX 50(W) firmware versions 4.25 through 5.36 Patch 1, USG20(W)-VPN firmware versions 4.25 through 5.36 Patch 1, VPN series firmware versions 4.30 through 5.36 Patch 1, ZyWALL/USG series firmware versions 4.25 through 4.73 Patch 1, could allow an unauthenticated attacker to cause denial-of-service (DoS) conditions and even a remote code execution on an affected device.

CVE-2023-1424

Buffer Copy without Checking Size of Input ('Classic Buffer Overflow') vulnerability in Mitsubishi Electric Corporation MELSEC iQ-F Series CPU modules allows a remote unauthenticated attacker to cause a denial of service (DoS) condition or execute malicious code on a target product by sending specially crafted packets. A system reset of the product is required for recovery from a denial of service (DoS) condition and malicious code execution.
