Google has for years accepted requests to remove certain sensitive data such as bank account or credit card numbers from search results. In a blog post on Wednesday, Google’s **Michelle Chang** wrote that the company’s expanded policy now allows for the removal of additional information that may pose a risk for identity theft, such as confidential log-in credentials, email addresses and phone numbers when it appears in Search results.

“When we receive removal requests, we will evaluate all content on the web page to ensure that we’re not limiting the availability of other information that is broadly useful, for instance in news articles,” Chang wrote. “We’ll also evaluate if the content appears as part of the public record on the sites of government or official sources. In such cases, we won’t make removals.”

Google says a removal request will be considered if the search result in question includes the presence of “explicit or implicit threats” or “explicit or implicit calls to action for others to harm or harass.” The company says if it approves your request, it may respond by removing the provided URL(s) for all queries, or for only queries including your name.

While Google’s removal of a search result from its index will do nothing to remove the offending content from the site that is hosting it, getting a link decoupled from Google search results is going to make the content at that link far less visible. According to recent estimates, Google enjoys somewhere near 90 percent market share in search engine usage.

KrebsOnSecurity decided to test this expanded policy with what would appear to be a no-brainer request: I asked Google to remove search result for BriansClub, one of the largest (if not THE largest) cybercrime stores for selling stolen payment card data.

BriansClub has long abused my name and likeness to pimp its wares on the hacking forums. Its homepage includes a copy of my credit report, Social Security card, phone bill, and a fake but otherwise official looking government ID card.

Briansclub updated its homepage with this information in 2019, after it got massively hacked and a copy of its customer database was shared with this author. The leaked data — which included 26 million credit and debit card records taken from hacked online and brick-and-mortar retailers — was ultimately shared with dozens of financial institutions.

_TechCrunch_ writes that the policy expansion comes six months after Google started allowing people under 18 or their parents request to delete their photos from search results. To do so, users need to specify that they want Google to remove “Imagery of an individual currently under the age of 18” and provide some personal information, the image URLs and search queries that would surface the results. Google also lets you submit requests to remove non-consensual explicit or intimate personal images from Google, along with involuntary fake pornography, TechCrunch notes.

This post will be updated in the event Google responds one way or the other, but that may take a while: Google’s automated response said: “Due to the preventative measures being taken for our support specialists in light of COVID-19, it may take longer than usual to respond to your support request. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and we’ll send you a reply as soon as we can.”

A “computer malfunction” in the broiler shed ventilation system caused the death of over 27,000 chickens, while the firm responsible for the incident has been fined over £44,000.

The incident occurred at Hose Lodge Farm in Colston Bassett, Nottinghamshire, England when a computer glitch caused the farm’s broiler shed system to malfunction and forced chickens to overheat alive.

On May 26th, 2020, there were around 50,000 chickens lodged on the farm. The inlets on the building’s side were closed for a scheduled rest period. However, a flaw in the system responsible for regulating airflow to the shed prevented the substitute tunnel ventilation system from doing its job. Hence, the shed got completely sealed, causing the inside temperature to rise rapidly. The chickens were trapped inside and suffered heat stress.

**Investigation Reveals Startling Findings**

Leicestershire County Council launched an investigation to identify what caused the deaths of so many children. Investigation revealed that an alarm that should’ve been set off when the building’s internal temperature reached 27°C (80.6°F) was erroneously set to sound at 37°C (98.6°F). Half of the chickens inside (around 27,249) had died by the time the farm’s staff was alerted.

**Firm Pleads Guilty for Baking Chickens Alive**

Leicestershire County Council’s Trading Standards Service prosecuted Hudson & Sanders Ltd. after thousands of chickens died at a farm near Melton Mowbray in Northern England. The Trading Standards Service charged the company with being negligent towards the birds. According to the service, the farm had inadequate and untrained staff, due to which they were unsure about how to address the overheating incident.

According to BBC, District judge Nick Watson described this incident as a disaster since the chickens that survived the overheating also equally suffered. Hudson & Sanders Limited was prosecuted under the Animal Welfare Act 2006.

The company pleaded guilty to 4 charges and received a fine of £44K ($55K), a victim surcharge of £190, and the council’s legal costs of £12,634.83 ($15,715.77).

The council’s head of regulatory services, Gary Connors, claimed that the high fine might prompt other businesses in this sector to ensure adequate staffing and safe and secure operational procedures to avoid such distressing events in the future.

When the text size was large enough the service resulted in a momentary outage in our non-production environment (not high availability). An internal reproduction showed isolated disruption but no outage in our production environment.

**Why my notifications are not in HTML format?**

Don’t worry, just go to the Options tab an set to Yes the **Enable HTML emails** option.

**How can I reset all the plugin options?**

There is a new feature called **Safely Uninstall** that allow you to delete the plugin using the WordPress plugin interface. If you have the option set to **Yes** everything but the subscriptions created by the plugin will be wipeout. So after you made sure that you have this option to **Yes** you can deactivate the plugin and the delete it. Now you have to install the plugin via WordPress or Upload the plugin zip file and activate it, after this step all your settings will be as default and your subscriptions will remain.  
There is a new feature added on the Options tab where you can reset all the settings by using only one click. You can either wipe out all the subscriptions or keep them.

**What can I do if the \*\*Safely Uninstall\*\* does not have any value?**

Just deactivate and activate the plugin and you are all set. The default value will be **Yes**.

**Aaargh! Were did all my subscriptions go?**

No panic. If you upgraded from 1.6 or earlier to 2.0+, you need to deactivate/activate StCR, in order to update the DB structure. After the version 180212 a fix was applied so that you can see all the subscriptions.

**Can I customize the layout of the management page?**

Yes, each HTML tag has a CSS class or ID that you can use to change its position or look-and-feel.

**How do I disable subscriptions for a given post?**

Add a custom field called stcr_disable_subscriptions to it, with value ‘yes’

**How do I add the management page URL to my posts?**

Use the shortcode [subscribe-url], or use the following code in your theme:

**Can I move the subscription checkbox to another position?**

The information of your configuration needs to be updated. Go to the Subscribe to Comments Reloaded settings and click the Save Changes button on the tab  
where you have you messages with HTML.

**How to generate a new Key for my Site?**

Just go to the Options Panel and click the generate button. By generating a new key you prevent the spam bots to steal your links.

People from my website, who made subscription for comments, said that in e-mail they get the IP of user, who left the comment. I\`m going to find another plugin.

I have the v.210315 I translated it into Italian 100% with Loco translated, but I noticed that in the plugin there are still many entries in English.

CVE-2022-29414: Subscribe To Comments Reloaded

International cybersecurity authorities have published an overview of the most routinely exploited vulnerabilities of 2021.

A joint Cybersecurity Advisory, coauthored by cybersecurity authorities of the United States (CISA, NSA, and FBI), Australia (ACSC), Canada (CCCS), New Zealand (NZ NCSC), and the United Kingdom (NCSC-UK) has detailed the top 15 Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVEs) routinely exploited by malicious cyber actors in 2021, as well as other CVEs frequently exploited.

Publicly disclosed computer security flaws are listed in the Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) database. Its goal is to make it easier to share data across separate vulnerability capabilities (tools, databases, and services). These are the CVEs that made it into the top 10.

**1\. Log4Shell**

CVE-2021-44228, commonly referred to as Log4Shell or Logjam. This was a software flaw in the Apache Log4j logging utility. A logger is a piece of software that logs every event that happens in a computer system. The records it produces are useful for IT and security folks to trace errors or check any abnormal behavior within a system.

When Log4Shell emerged in December 2021, what caught many by surprise was the enormous number of applications and web services, including those offered by Twitter, Apple, Google, Amazon, Steam, and Microsoft, among others, that were relying on Log4j, many of which inherited the vulnerability.

This made for an exceptionally broad attack surface. Combine that with an incredibly easy to use exploit and there should be no surprise that this vulnerability made it to the top of the list.

The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has launched an open source scanner to find applications that are vulnerable to the Log4j vulnerabilities listed as CVE-2021-44228 and CVE-2021-45046. The CISA Log4j scanner is based on other open source tools and supports scanning lists of URLs, several fuzzing options, DNS callback, and payloads to circumvent web-application firewalls.

**2\. CVE-2021-40539**

CVE-2021-40539 is a REST API authentication bypass vulnerability in ManageEngine’s single sign-on (SSO) solution with resultant remote code execution (RCE) that exists in Zoho ManageEngine ADSelfService Plus version 6113 and prior. When word of this vulnerability came out it was already clear that it was being exploited in the wild. Zoho remarked that it was noticing indications of this vulnerability being exploited. Other researchers chimed in saying the attacks had thus far been highly targeted and limited, and possibly the work of a single threat actor. It was clear from the start that APT threat-actors were likely among those exploiting the vulnerability.

The vulnerability allows an attacker to gain unauthorized access to the product through REST API endpoints by sending a specially crafted request. This allows attackers to carry out subsequent attacks resulting in RCE.

For those that have never heard of this software, it’s a self-service password management and single sign-on (SSO) solution for Active Directory (AD) and cloud apps. Which means that any attacker that is able to exploit this vulnerability immediately has access to some of the most critical parts of a corporate network. A patch for this vulnerability was made available on September 7, 2021. Users were advised to update to ADSelfService Plus build 6114. The FBI, CISA, and CGCYBER also strongly urged organizations to make sure that ADSelfService Plus was not directly accessible from the Internet.

The ManageEngine site has specific instructions on how to identify and update vulnerable installations.

**3\. ProxyShell**

Third on the list are 3 vulnerabilities that we commonly grouped together and referred to as ProxyShell. CVE-2021-34523, CVE-2021-34473, and CVE-2021-31207.

The danger lies in the fact that these three vulnerabilities can be chained together to allow a remote attacker to run code on an unpatched Microsoft Exchange server. Attackers use them as follows:

*   **Get in** with CVE-2021-31207, a Microsoft Exchange Server security feature bypass vulnerability. The vulnerability allows a remote user to bypass the authentication process.
*   **Take control** with CVE-2021-34523, a Microsoft Exchange Server elevation of privilege (EoP) vulnerability. The vulnerability allows a user to raise their permissions.
*   **Do bad things** with CVE-2021-34473, a Microsoft Exchange Server remote code execution (RCE) vulnerability. The vulnerability allows an authenticated user to execute arbitrary code in the context of SYSTEM and write arbitrary files.

The vulnerabilities were found in Microsoft Exchange Server, which has a large userbase and which is usually set up as an Internet-facing instance. Plus, many publications have provided proof-of-concept (PoC) methodologies which anyone can copy and use.

Microsoft’s Security Update from May 2021 remediates all three ProxyShell vulnerabilities.

**4\. ProxyLogon**

After the ProxyShell entries we go straight to four vulnerabilities that are grouped under a similar name—ProxyLogon—for similar reasons. CVE-2021-26855, CVE-2021-26857, CVE-2021-2685, and CVE-2021-27065 all share the same description—”This vulnerability is part of an attack chain. The initial attack requires the ability to make an untrusted connection to Exchange server port 443.”

While the CVE description is the same for the 4 CVE’s we have learned that CVE-2021-26855 is a server-side request forgery (SSRF) vulnerability in Exchange that was used to steal mailbox content. The RCE vulnerability CVE-2021-26857 was used to run code under the System account. The other two zero-day flaws—CVE-2021-26858 and CVE-2021-27065—would allow an attacker to write a file to any part of the server.

Together these four vulnerabilities form an attack chain that only requires the attacker to find the server running Exchange, and the account from which they want to extract email. After exploiting these vulnerabilities to gain initial access, threat actors deployed web shells on the compromised servers to gain persistence and make more changes. Web shells can allow attackers to steal data and perform additional malicious actions.

ProxyLogon started out as a limited and targeted attack method attributed to a group called Hafnium. Unfortunately it went from limited and targeted attacks to a full-size panic in no time. Attackers started using the Exchange bugs to access vulnerable servers before establishing web shells to gain persistence and steal information.

Microsoft has released a one-click mitigation tool for Exchange Server deployments. The Microsoft Exchange On-Premises Mitigation Tool will help customers who do not have dedicated security or IT teams to apply these security updates. **5\. CVE-2021-26084**

CVE-2021-26084 is an Object-Graph Navigation Language (OGNL) injection vulnerability that exists in some versions of Confluence Server and Data Center that can allow an unauthenticated attacker to execute arbitrary code on a Confluence Server or Data Center instance. This was a zero-day vulnerability that was only patched after it was found to be actively exploited in the wild. An attacker could exploit the vulnerability by simply sending a specially crafted HTTP request containing a malicious parameter to a vulnerable install.

Shortly after the vulnerability was disclosed and a patch came out, researchers noticed massive scanning activity for vulnerable instances and crypto-miners started to use the vulnerability to run their code on unpatched servers.

On the Confluence Support website you can find a list of affected versions, instructions to upgrade, and a workaround for those that are unable to upgrade.

**Lessons learned**

What does this list tell us to look out for in 2022?

Well, first off, if you haven’t patched one of the above we would urgently advise you to do so. And it wouldn’t hurt to continue working down the list provided by CISA.

Second, you may have noticed a pattern in what made these vulnerabilities so popular to exploit:

*   **A large attack surface**. Popular and widely used software makes for a larger number of potential victims. The money is in the numbers.
*   **Internet-facing instances**. Remember, your Internet-connected software shares the Internet with every basement-dwelling criminal hacker in the world.
*   **Easy exploitability**. When vulnerabilities are easy to exploit, and PoCs are publicly available and easy to deploy, the number of potential threat actors goes up.

So, if you notice or hear about a vulnerability that meets these “requirements” move it to the top of your “to-patch” list.

However, the mad dash to set up shop in the cloud can sometimes lead to stormy weather: There are, after all, beaucoup security challenges hidden behind the cloud’s promise of blue skies. As Prevailion CTO Nate Warfield enumerates, cloud marketplaces “are rife with pre-built virtual machine (VM) images containing unpatched vulnerabilities, overly permissive firewall settings, and even malware and coin miners. Cloud providers don’t take a proactive stance towards breach and compromise monitoring and, in many cases, won’t even pass on notifications to their customers which they have received from external researchers.”

In order to put some quantifiable numbers around how organizations are faring in their journeys to the cloud, Threatpost polled 400+ readers. Topics included what security dangers respondents have encountered, and which ones they most fear they’ll run into. We also asked what security tools they plan to implement in the coming months.

When asked how confident respondents are that their organization had implemented sufficient cloud security, the majority felt bullish (68 percent). Worryingly, almost a quarter (24 percent) said they had no confidence in their organization’s cloud security. Just 8 percent said they feel “highly” confident.

**Responsibility**

Warfield’s list of challenges is just the tip of the iceberg, according to the poll results. There are also data-privacy and regulatory issues; the basic challenges of implementing cloud, such as staff shortages; the threat of cyberattack and data exposure; and plain old confusion.

Not everyone is sure who’s responsible for what when it comes to the sharedresponsibility model for public cloud deployments. And, a recurring question is what zero-access architecture for access management entails.

Just over half said they have embraced the shared-responsibility model for public cloud deployments (59 percent), but a quarter said they “don’t really understand it” and 12 percent said they did not. When asked if they’ve implemented a zero-trust architecture for access management, 53 percent said, “not yet but plan to,” and 17 percent said it confused them. Just 23 percent said yes. Six percent said absolutely not.

The notion of “DevSecOps,” where security is built into an organization’s cloudnative application lifecycle management, has more support: 71 percent noted that they’ve either adopted the strategy or soon plan to; but a fifth (21 percent) said they didn’t fully grasp what it means.

Meanwhile, organizations perceive there to be a lot of security pitfalls in the cloud. In its poll, Threatpost asked about a number of them, from API vulnerabilities to stolen cloud credentials, and container bugs to a smorgasbord of malware, including ransomware and cryptomining malware.

**Security Pitfall No. 1: Misconfigurations**

The biggest number of respondents – 27 percent – cited misconfigurations and data exposure as the biggest threat to their cloud deployments.

While many respondents reported that they’ve either experienced a cyberattack on their cloud assets in the past 12 months (18 percent) or that they aren’t exactly sure (2 percent), an even larger portion – 38 percent – reported having experienced a data-exposure incident due to misconfiguration.

Poll respondents’ takes on the issues confirm what’s been a constant over the past few years; namely, misconfigured cloud deployments have been, and continue to be, rampant. In a 2020 survey of 2,064 Google Cloud buckets by Comparitech, 6 percent of all Google Cloud buckets were estimated to be misconfigured and left open to the public internet, for anyone to access their highly sensitive content.

Respondents ranked their other most-worrying cloud security threats as account compromise and stolen cloud credentials, (20 percent); API vulnerabilities (13 percent); advanced attacks against cloud providers (11 percent); ransomware (9 percent); cyberespionage/data theft (6 percent); distributed denial of service (DDoS, 5 percent); other malware (3 percent); and cryptojacking (2 percent).

**How You’re Protecting the Cloud**

Fortunately, efforts to secure the cloud aren’t static. Nor are the technologies. When asked what security tools they’re planning on implementing in the next 12 months, poll respondents listed a host of technologies that will hopefully fill in whatever holes they have in their cybersecurity umbrellas.

For better or worse, multifactor authentication (MFA) on all accounts was cited as the top tool already in use by the most respondents, at 12 percent. It’s important however not to fall into a false sense of security: In January 2021, the feds warned that cloud attacks were bypassing weaker two-factor authentication, such as schemes that use a code sent to a mobile phone via SMS.

In terms of the top security tools that poll respondents plan to invest in, encryption for data at rest and data in transit (cited by 11 percent) took the lead, followed by identity access management (11 percent) and the adoption of self-managed security controls offered by cloud providers (9 percent).

The top most-cited planned upgrade to cloud security in the poll was user-behavior analytics: i.e., the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning to analyze large datasets and identify patterns that signify security breaches. This can be used to spot anomalous behavior that may indicate data exfiltration or other malicious activity that might otherwise slip by security tools and personnel. In all, 9 percent of respondents said their organizations have behavior analytics in the works in the coming year.

The next set of top cloud-security tools on the to-do list were cloudconfiguration monitoring tools (cited by 8 percent), a single console to manage security across multiple clouds (7.5 percent), and MFA on all accounts (7.5 percent). Next up were risk assessment and auditing (7.5 percent), policybased data loss prevention (DLP) (7 percent) and data activity monitoring (7 percent).

**What’s Gumming Up the Works**

Some security tools are in place, while more are being implemented. But all of this work to secure the cloud is, well, work, and it often requires more hands than are available. As noted earlier, respondents cited a lack of skilled staff as the biggest challenge when it comes to securing the cloud, (19 percent).

Indeed, the (ISC)²’s 2021 Cybersecurity Workforce Study found that there are 2.72 million open cybersecurity positions globally, and that the worldwide cybersecurity workforce needs to grow 65 percent to effectively defend organizations’ critical assets. Out of those, cloud management and cybersecurity ranked highest when it comes to the biggest talent gaps that companies need to fill.

The next biggest challenge facing organizations is a lack of visibility into what data is held within cloud applications, cited by 13 percent. That’s followed by insufficient identity and access management controls at 11 percent.

It’s clear that cloud security is increasingly top-of-mind at organizations, which have big plans for addressing it. But it’s a proverbial journey, not a sprint. As Prevailion’s Warfield noted, it’s crucial to take it seriously, and the time is now to start implementing controls.

“Cloud networking isn’t inherently insecure,” he said. “But as the world shifts to a cloud-centric and hybrid cloud environment, particularly for remote workforces, organizations need to recognize that their cloud-security strategy, policies, controls and processes must be as robust as in a classic onpremises environment.”

To find the update, you’ll need to check your device settings. Devices that have received the Android April update so far include Google’s Pixel devices and some third-party Android phones, including the Samsung Galaxy A32 5G, A51, A52 5G, A53 5G, A71, S10 series, S20 series, Note20 series, Z Flip 5G, Z Flip3, Z Fold, Z Fold2, and the Z Fold3, as well as the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro.

Google Chrome Emergency Updates

As the world’s biggest browser with over 3 billion users, it’s no surprise attackers are targeting Google Chrome. Browser-based attacks are particularly worrying because they can potentially be chained together with other vulnerabilities and used to take over your device.

It has been a particularly busy month for the team behind Google’s Chrome browser, which has seen several security updates within weeks of each other. The latest, pushed out in mid-April, fixes two issues including a high-severity zero-day vulnerability, CVE-2022-1364, which is already being used by attackers.

The technical details aren’t currently available, but the timing of the fix—just a day after it was reported—indicates it’s pretty serious. If you use Chrome, your browser should now be on version 100.0.4896.127 to include the fix. You’ll need to restart Chrome after the update has installed to ensure it activates.

The Chrome issue also impacts other Chromium-based browsers, including Brave, Microsoft Edge, Opera, and Vivaldi, so if you use one of those, make sure you apply the patch.

But that’s not all. On April 27, Google announced another Chrome update, fixing 30 security vulnerabilities. None of these have been exploited yet, the company says, but seven are rated as being a high risk. The update takes the browser to version 101.0.4951.41.

Oracle’s April 2022 Critical Patch Update

In mid-April, Oracle released its quarterly Critical Patch Update, including a whopping 520 security fixes. Some of the issues fixed in the update are serious—300 of them can be exploited remotely without authentication, and 75 security issues are rated as critical severity. Some of the Oracle patches address CVE-2022-22965, aka Spring4Shell, a remote code execution (RCE) flaw in the spring framework.

Microsoft’s Busy April Patch Tuesday

Microsoft had a major Patch Tuesday in April, issuing fixes for over 100 vulnerabilities, including 10 critical RCE flaws. One of the most important, CVE-2022-24521, is already being exploited by attackers, according to the company.

Reported by the NSA and researchers at CrowdStrike, the issue in the Windows Common Log File system driver doesn’t require human interaction to be exploited and can be used to obtain administrative privileges on a logged-in system. Other notable fixes include CVE-2022-26904—a publicly known issue—and CVE-2022-26815, a severe DNS Server flaw.

Mozilla Thunderbird 91.8.0 Fix

On April 5, Mozilla released a patch to fix security issues in its Thunderbird email client as well as its Firefox browser. The details are scant, but Thunderbird 91.8 fixes four vulnerabilities rated as having a high impact, some of which could be exploited to run arbitrary code.

Firefox ESR 91.8 and Firefox 99 also fix multiple security issues.

WordPress Plugin Elementor Version 3.6.3 

The Elementor website builder plug-in for WordPress has received a big security fix in April for a critical-rated vulnerability that could allow attackers to perform remote code execution and effectively take over a website.

Found by researchers at Plugin Vulnerabilities, the flaw was introduced in the plug-in in version 3.6.0, released on March 22. “We would recommend not using this plugin until it has had a thorough security review and all issues are addressed,” the researchers said.

Although the attacker must be authenticated to exploit the issue, it’s still pretty serious because anyone logged into an affected website can exploit it. The update for Elementor’s 5 million users, version 3.6.3, should be applied as soon as possible.
