Ubuntu Security Notice USN-7014-1

Ubuntu Security Notice 7014-1 - It was discovered that the nginx ngx_http_mp4 module incorrectly handled certain malformed mp4 files. In environments where the mp4 directive is in use, a remote attacker could possibly use this issue to cause nginx to crash, resulting in a denial of service.

Platform Engineering Is Security Engineering

For modern applications built on Kubernetes and microservices, platform engineering is not just about building functional systems but also about embedding security into the fabric of those systems.

GHSA-mcmc-c59m-pqq8: GeoServer style upload functionality vulnerable to XML External Entity (XXE) injection

### Summary GeoNode is vulnerable to an XML External Entity (XXE) injection in the style upload functionality of GeoServer leading to Arbitrary File Read. ### Details GeoNode's GeoServer has the ability to upload new styles for datasets through the [`dataset_style_upload` view](https://github.com/GeoNode/geonode/blob/99b0557da5c7db23c72ad39e466b88fe43edf82d/geonode/geoserver/urls.py#L70-L72). ```py # https://github.dev/GeoNode/geonode/blob/99b0557da5c7db23c72ad39e466b88fe43edf82d/geonode/geoserver/views.py#L158-L159 @login_required def dataset_style_upload(request, layername): def respond(*args, **kw): kw['content_type'] = 'text/html' return json_response(*args, **kw) ... sld = request.FILES['sld'].read() # 1 sld_name = None try: # Check SLD is valid ... sld_name = extract_name_from_sld(gs_catalog, sld, sld_file=request.FILES['sld']) # 2 except Exception as e: respond(errors=f"The uploaded SLD file is not valid X...

Researchers Uncover TLS Bootstrap Attack on Azure Kubernetes Clusters

Cybersecurity researchers have disclosed a security flaw impacting Microsoft Azure Kubernetes Services that, if successfully exploited, could allow an attacker to escalate their privileges and access credentials for services used by the cluster. "An attacker with command execution in a Pod running within an affected Azure Kubernetes Services cluster could download the configuration used to

GHSA-94cc-xjxr-pwvf: DSpace Cross Site Scripting (XSS) via a deposited HTML/XML document

### Impact In DSpace 7.0 through 7.6.1, when an HTML, XML or JavaScript Bitstream is downloaded, the user's browser _may_ execute any embedded JavaScript. If that embedded JavaScript is malicious, there is a risk of an XSS attack. This attack may only be initialized by a user who already has Submitter privileges in the repository. The submitter must upload the malicious HTML/XML/JavaScript file themselves. The attack itself would not occur until a different authenticated user downloads the malicious file. CORS and CSRF protection built into DSpace help to limit the impact of the attack (and may block it in some scenarios). If the repository is configured to only download HTML / XML / JavaScript Bitstreams using the [`Content-Disposition: attachment`](https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTTP/Headers/Content-Disposition) header, then the attack is no longer possible. See "Workarounds" below. ### Patches The fix is included in both 8.0 and 7.6.2. Please upgrade to one of t...

GHSA-wrvh-rcmr-9qfc: @strapi/plugin-users-permissions leaks 3rd party authentication tokens and authentication bypass

### Summary By combining two vulnerabilities (an `Open Redirect` and `session token sent as URL query parameter`) in Strapi framework is its possible of an unauthenticated attacker to bypass authentication mechanisms and retrieve the 3rd party tokens. The attack requires user interaction (one click). ### Impact Unauthenticated attackers can leverage two vulnerabilities to obtain an 3rd party token and the bypass authentication of Strapi apps. ### Technical details #### Vulnerability 1: Open Redirect ##### Description Open redirection vulnerabilities arise when an application incorporates user-controllable data into the target of a redirection in an unsafe way. An attacker can construct a URL within the application that causes a redirection to an arbitrary external domain. In the specific context of Strapi, this vulnerability allows the SSO token to be stolen, allowing an attacker to authenticate himself within the application. ##### Remediation If possible, applications shoul...

Creating a Web Application Firewall in Red Hat OpenShift

In the last few years, several Red Hat customers have asked how to add a Web Application Firewall (WAF) to the OpenShift ingress to protect all externally facing applications.A WAF is a Layer 7 capability that protects applications against some types of web-based attacks, including but not limited to Cross Site Request Forgery (CRSF), Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) and SQL injection (for a more comprehensive list of all known web based attacks, see here).Unfortunately, OpenShift does not have these capabilities included within the default ingress router, and as a result, alternate solutions must
